System Architecture

This section distinguishes between Operator Interfaces and Field Interfaces to the BAS. The Operator Interface refers to the main 'front-end' method for accessing and operating the BAS. The Field Interfaces typically access the BAS from the controller-level and have limited functionality, and may include HID, LDP, and ZBI as described below. This section describes the devices only; OI functionality is generally covered in the Software, while Field Interface functionality is detailed further in the individual Controllers
Operator Interfaces (OI)
Dedicated Operator Workstation (OWS)
Dedicated PC(s) with proprietary workstation software
PC with ASI Expert software. ASI Expert allows the user to configure controllers, set-up and test networks, debug and commission systems, and document and maintain projects. ASI WebLink 3 web server software refreshes read/write data from the control system via ASI LinkOPC server.
"Thin" Client Browser Internet Explorer 5.5+ Requires ASI Weblink 3 software running on a PC on the IT network.

Handheld Interface Devices (HID)
PDA-Based MobileXpert runs on a Windows based Pocket PC. MobileXpert will allow the user to modify setpoints, test networks, and commission systems through the PDA.

Local Display Panel (LDP) ePAD display can display data from ASIC/2 or ASIC/1 controllers. It allows operator to change limited data.
Zone Based Interfaces (ZBI)
Thermostat with communication port to access local controller/network WS-0X1 Series Thermostat. Thermostat has RJ-45 port to connect to controller network and an RJ-12 port for use of SINC/1-1030 connected to a PC/Laptop. WS-051 has local temperature and setpoint display and allows limited user adjust and afterhours operation.
Other thermostat types available (without communication ports)
Interface to BAS Networks Possible with interface hardware. The ASI Etherlink/3 can connect the controller network with a new or existing Ethernet network. It is also compatible with corporate LAN/WANs and the Internet.

Repeaters, bridges, standard modems and the like are typically not included here. Note: If in use by the BAS, the Internet/building IT Network is extremely open and non-proprietary. If a vendor uses the IT Network, CI devices such as IP routers and hubs can be purchased from third parties.

A clock comes with the SINC/3-3000 and the time can be broadcast on the network to synchronize time on networks of controllers. The SINC/3 communicates using ASI communication protocol at speeds up to 19.2 kbps. It also allows networks operating at different speeds to be linked by acting as a baud rate buffer between the two networks.
